How to Move into Income Based Housing

Income based housing was designed for people that cannot afford to pay market rent. These houses are subsidized by HUD which allows renters to live in a comfortable setting without going over their budget.

In order to be accepted into income based housing, your income must be at the amount specified by HUD. You can get this information from HUDs website. Each county has a different specified income amount.

HUD provides income based housing by giving money to landlords. Landlords would then collect from tenants the remaining rent that HUD does not pay. So in this case tenants can afford housing at a cheaper price.

The quickest way to find income based housing is to go online and do a search. A few sites can help you find the income based housing you are looking for. All you have to do is set where you want to live and how much you can afford in rent and the sites will give you results that fit your match.

Once you decide to go check out the income based housing, you should take some notes. This can be a big help later when you need to review your notes and figure out which income based housing you like.

Find out from the resident of the income based housing what they think of the place. Some answers you might want to find out are, how does the landlord treat the tenant? Does the landlord take care of issues quickly or is he more of an absentee landlord. You can generally get a good idea of how well the landlord takes care of the house by looking at the exterior and interior.

When going through and looking at the inside of the income based housing, point out all the problems and have it recorded. Tell the landlord to get it fixed before you rent the place.

Protect your property by buying renters insurance. This is a very inexpensive insurance that insures your things against theft.
